Based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, which classified the Nile Delta as one of the world's top three most vulnerable hotspots, the implementation of 69 km of coastal protection works was a vital and proactive measure. The project targeted five coastal governorates (Kafr El-Sheikh, Beheira, Dakahlia, Port Said, and Damietta) with the aim of safeguarding citizens' lives, preserving agricultural lands and infrastructure, and protecting massive national investments estimated at approximately $8.4 Billion
As part of our efforts to protect our coasts, we adopt "Nature-based Solutions" (NbS) as a core pillar for climate change adaptation. It is more than just protection; it is an integrated biological ecosystem:
-
Materials from the Heart of Nature: We utilize sand, vegetation, and eco-friendly stones to construct natural barriers.
-
A Living, Renewable System: Unlike traditional concrete barriers, these solutions allow ecosystems to grow and biodiversity to thrive.
-
Resilience: They possess a high capacity to adapt to sea-level rise (SLR) and withstand sea surges and storms.
-
Economic Sustainability: They offer lower construction costs, coupled with a commitment to periodic maintenance programs to ensure their efficiency as a shield for vulnerable areas.
