Egyptian-Dutch Advisory Council meeting
On the sidelines of Cairo Water Week 6, H.E. Prof. Dr. Hani Sewilam, Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation, chaired a meeting of the Egyptian-Dutch Advisory Council. He pointed to the similarities in the water situation in Egypt and the Netherlands, and the challenges that both countries face, such as deltas, coastal protection, and coastal area management. He added that work is underway to update the memorandum of understanding signed between the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation and the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management to enhance cooperation in the areas of integrated coastal area management. During the meeting, Dr. Mohamed Ahmed, the CEO of the Enhancing climate change adaptation in the north coast and Nile delta regions in Egypt project (#eccadp), provided a quick summary of the activities of the integrated coastal area management plan. The plan takes into account the various activities in the region and paves the way for sustainable development along the Mediterranean Sea. It also relies on the latest scientific knowledge, modeling tools, and accurate data to enable decision-makers to make the right decisions at the right time.
